JOBS
Jobs in Tenerife are generally based as you might expect, around the holiday industry. If you're looking for work in Tenerife, holiday
reps, bar workers and kitchen staff are usually in great demand as well as entertainers and comperes including 'famous name'
impersonators etc. Sales personnel are also in demand by 'timeshare', holiday ownership companies etc and builders are often
sought by the various construction companies on the island. The ability to speak Spanish will obviously be an asset for certain jobs
in Tenerife however much of the island's employment is centred around the holiday resorts and most businesses are of the type
that cater to tourists so speaking other languages is not always essential.

All employers should offer employees a work contract however due to the costs and legal obligations involved many employers are
reluctant to do so and will prefer to offer 'cash in hand' on a casual basis. Although this practise is widespread you should be aware
that if you take a job in Tenerife without a contract you will not be covered by the social security and you and your employers may
wind up with a fine. Some employers get around the system by offering employees part time, temporary contracts. Again this is a
fairly widespread practise so if you decide to take a job in Tenerife you should satisfy yourself with the terms you are being offered.

Anyone intending to live and work in Tenerife will need to register at the local police station where you will be issued with an N.I.E.
number which allows you to reside on the island. You should then apply for a residencia which is a relatively simple although slightly
time consuming process. Application forms are available from the police station.
