A holiday in Tenerife would not be complete without a trip to the majestic Mount Teide. A volcanic mountain, Teide  is approximately
3,717 m above sea level and approximately 7,000 m above the adjacent sea bed. It is the highest mountain in Spain, the highest
mountain in any Atlantic island, and the third largest volcano on Earth. Mount Teide is currently dormant, the last eruption occurring
in 1909 from the subsidiary vent of Chinyero on the western slope.

Another popular excursion for holidaymakers to Tenerife is a boat trip to see the whales and dolphins that bask in the ocean
surrounding the island. A third of all species of whales and dolphins either live in or will at some time pass through the waters of the
Canary Islands. Although dolphins are a slightly rarer sight it is pretty much guaranteed that most boat trips in Tenerife will be
accompanied by a family of whales.

If birds are your passion the Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz on the northern coast of Tenerife is guaranteed to please. It is home to
almost 350 types of birds. Great emphasis is placed on conservation and the park also houses several other breeds of animal,
including chimps rescued from photographers and big cats previously owned by magicians. The Loro Parque is open daily from 8.30
to 18.45 last entry is 17.00.  Several tour companies operate bus trips from the south of Tenerife and a motorised miniature train
runs from the centre of Puerto de la Cruz.  Motorised wheelchairs are provided for hire and snack bars, restaurants and drink
facilities are available.

Tenerife's newest attraction -  THE SIAM PARK  - said to be Europe's greatest water theme park promises a world of thrilling water
rides, spectacular scenery and the greatest adventure of your life!
Among the many attractions there is a beautiful floating market over a pool of Koi Carp, the biggest lazy river in the world and an
adrenalin pumping Tower of Power with a very sharp drop through a tank of alligators.

One of the best kept secrets of Tenerife is the Masca Valley, with its impressive rock formations, and the little village that lies on its
floor.  A trip to Masca is not for the faint hearted as the road is an excruciating series of long, weaving, mountainous bends but for
those who are adventurous enough to face the challenge, Masca will provide some of the most breathtaking scenery Tenerife has to
offer.

Car Hire Tips in Tenerife
The beautiful Spanish island of Tenerife is home to a landscape as diverse as it is stunning, ranging from lush forests, ancient ruins,
sandy beaches and a volcano. For this reason, many visitors choose to explore the island by car. Though there are car hire
companies situated all over the island, it is more convenient to rent a car from a rental firm operating out of the airport. The main
companies offering Tenerife South Airport car hire are Auto Reisen Travel, Avis Tenerife, Cicar Tenerife and Hertz Tenerife.

Auto Reisen offers a selection of vehicles ranging from the Citroen Saxo to the new BMW 1 series (€84 and €225.58 respectively for
seven days). This company only offers three or seven day hire, though their rates do include unlimited mileage, a free additional
driver, free cancellation service, comprehensive insurance and free child-seats. To hire a car from Auto Reisen you must be a
minimum age of 25, and have three years driving experience. Payment is made by credit card on collection. Unlike Auto Reisen, Avis
Tenerife allow customers to select the duration of their vehicle hire, and their prices start at €126 for seven day hire of a VW Fox, up
to €504.70 for an Audi A6. A booking with Avis includes vehicle damage and theft cover, though both child-seats and an additional
named driver cost extra. To hire a car from Avis you must be 23 or over and have a clean driving license. Payment can be done
either online or upon collection.

Like Auto Reisen, Cicar is a Canary Islands based company. Cicar operates a fleet of 6,000 cars ranging from the Chevrolet Matiz
(€130 for seven days) right up to the Range Rover Sport (€1014). With this company you can choose the length of your hire, and
child-seats, luggage racks and an additional driver can also be added at no extra cost. The booking fee also includes unlimited
mileage, local tax and fully comprehensive insurance. Hertz Tenerife also offers a wide variety of cars for hire, starting with the
Peugot 107 (€125.30 for seven days), right up to the Jeep Patriot (€317.57). This company also offers a `green` option of
environmentally friendly hybrid cars. Hertz charges extra for child-seats, luggage racks and additional drivers, though the rental price
does include basic insurance. To rent a car you must be at least 25, though this can be reduced to 23 at an additional cost. Payment
can be made online or upon collection.

When considering
car hire at Tenerife South airport you should ensure that the vehicle you choose will be large enough to
accommodate both yourself and your luggage. If you are planning extended drives it is wise to use a company that offer unlimited
mileage, and you should also check that you are satisfied with the insurance the company offers. When hiring a car, always
remember to drive on the right-hand side of the road this also means going around the roundabout the other way and changing
gear with your right, rather than your left, hand. If however you prefer not to drive, Tenerife has plenty of conveniently situated taxi
ranks and a good regular bus service.
